Cook County Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance
Chapter 42- Human Relations, Article IV, Residential Tenant and Landlord Ordinance, Sections 42-801 through 42- 816 of the Cook County Code
In January of 2021 Cook County passed a new ordinance (RTLO) which applies to residential rentals all over Cook County with few exceptions. It took effect on June 1, 2021. We have been representing tenants from large apartment complexes in the suburbs since 2006, but only under the Illinois Security Deposit Return Act, until this new rental law was passed. The new Cook County Ordinance has allowed us to help tenants in Schaumburg, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Palatine, Elk Grove Village, Oak Park, and almost all other towns within the County, including unincorporated Cook County.
