Cook County Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance
Chapter 42- Human Relations, Article IV, Residential Tenant and Landlord Ordinance, Sections 42-801 through 42- 816 of the Cook County Code
In January of 2021 Cook County passed a new ordinance (RTLO) which will apply to residential rentals all over Cook County, except within the municipalities that already had residential landlord-tenant legislation like Mount Prospect, Oak Park, Evanston, and Chicago. It will take effect on June 1, 2021, except the provision against unlawful lockouts took effect immediately.
